Inaugural meeting of the re-established Cross-Party Group of Medical Research. An official AGM was conducted to elect Russell George as chair and BHF Cymru and Cancer Research UK as Joint Secretariat of the group. Presentation from The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry regarding a recent ABPI report about clinical trials in the UK. Two more presentations about the patient benefits of medical research. Meeting concluded with a Q&A.

Summary of the issues discussed:

Second meeting of the Cross Party Group on Medical Research focused on the economic impact of medical research in Wales. Vaughan Gething, Minister for Economy also joined the meeting and contributed. Presentation from the Fraser of Allander Institute at Strathcylde University and a presentation from BHF Cymru about how Welsh Government can reap the economic benefits of medical research in Wales.

Final meeting of the year for the CPG on medical research which conducted the AGM to elected Russell George as chair and Hannah Peeler from BHF Cymru as Secretariat. The session focused on the staff benefits of medical research in Wales; how medical research can improve staff retention within the NHS.
